FIRESEAL 2000

WHAT IS FIRE SEAL 2000?

For years we’ve been working on a product to repair cracks, pits or holes in exhaust manifolds, tailpipes, mufflers, or other components subjected to high temperatures while in use. Because replacement parts are often difficult or impossible to find, there is a real need for this type of product in the market place.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Fire Seal 2000 is a single component (no mixing required) ceramic and stainless steel filled putty that is resistant to fuels, oils, and corrosive materials. After it is fully cured, it will withstand temperatures up to 11000C (20000F). Fire Seal 2000 may be applied to rough

surfaced or sandblasted steel, stainless steel, or cast iron. Use a putty knife, small trowel, spatula, or caulking gun to apply.

Surface Preparation:

Remove loose rust by abrading parts with a stiff wire brush or sanding tool. Sandblast if parts can be removed. Relieve stress in cracked castings by v-grooving the crack and drilling holes through the ends with a 3mm (1/8”) drill bit. Remove any dirt or oil using lacquer thinner or POR 15 Solvent. Burn off residue using a propane torch to improve adhesion and prevent any moisture or oil left in the metal from causing Fire Seal 2000 to blister.

Application:

Mix contents thoroughly by kneading pouch. Clip pouch and spread Fire Seal 2000 evenly with a putty knife or spreader. Seal pouch in order to preserve remaining unused material. For pits, cracks and small holes, a maximum thickness of 10mm (3/8”) per application is recommended. Make sure to fully cure Fire Seal 2000 if additional applications are required. For holes larger than 10mm (3/8”) diameter, repairs should be made using a fine metal screen. First, apply Fire Seal 2000, then form and clamp the screen to the part. Apply a second coating of Fire Seal 2000 to cover the screen.

Curing:

Air dry at room temperature for 18-24 hours (up to 48 hours for humid environments), then idle engine or gradually heat repair for 10 - 15 minutes to fully cure. Note: if bubbling occurs after curing, Fire Seal 2000 was cured too rapidly, or the surface was not adequately cleaned and dried. Correct this by permitting surface to cool, scrape off blistered material, and then re-prep the area that bubbled.

Machining:

Sand Fire Seal 2000 after it is fully cured, using a file or medium grit sandpaper. Do not use lubricant for machining. Make sure to wear a dust mask to prevent inhalation of sanding dust.

Storage and Disposal:

Store sealed pouches between 8 and 34 0C (45 and 900F). Do not allow freezing.

Fire Seal 2000 is environmentally safe, water-based, non-flammable, and contains no solvents or volatile organic compounds.
