PRODUCT INFORMATION DATA SHEETS FUEL TANK REPAIR KIT Please read carefully before using this kit. Please read and follow our directions carefully and you will be rewarded with a perfect job. The components of this kit are designed to work together or individually, depending on the condition of the tank. The following is a brief description of each product. MARINE CLEAN Marine Clean is a powerful cleaner that will remove gums, varnishes and sludge that may have accumulated in your tank. It is absolutely essential to remove all foreign matter from your tank before sealing it, because no sealer will work properly if contamination is present. METAL READY Metal Ready is an excellent rust remover and pre-primer for US Standard Fuel Tank Sealer. It will remove rust and leave a protective zinc phosphate coating on the interior walls of your petrol tank which will guarantee that the sealer will work perfectly. US STANDARD TANK SEALER US Standard Tank Sealer is the finest state-of-the-art sealer available. It will leave a rock hard non-porous flexible film on the walls of your tank and keep moisture away permanently. It is impervious to all fuels and additives, including alcohol, and will seal pinholes and seam leaks easily. DIRECTIONS You will need:- - Gloves and eye protection
- Some cork or duct, masking tape
- A bucket
- Water (preferably hot)
- Paint brush (if your tank has pinhole)
Remove tank or tanks from Motorcycle. Drain all fuel into a separate container. Remove any sender units, electrical equipment, gauges, hose or leads from the tanks to be sealed. Then proceed to bung all holes with cork stops, masking tape, duct tape etc. except for the largest one, which will be used to pour in and out preparation products and sealer. Cleaning the Tank: Mix 1 litre of Marine Clean and 1 litre of warm water (warm solution works faster). Warning: Marine Clean can be quite aggressive when mixed with hot water, gloves and eye protection should be warn at all times. Pour mixture into the tank. Agitiate tank periodically so that gum, varnish, sludge are covered with solution. Marine Clean is best left to soak in the tank for a number of hours (24 hours maximum, 5-6 hours being ideal). Dump remaining solution and repeat the procedure until the tank is clean. Rinse tank out with water and let dry. To aid drying use of a hot hair dryer is helpful. Prepping the Tank: Pour entire contents of Metal Ready into tank and soak all surfaces. Prop tank so solution covers rusted areas. Metal Ready will dissolve rust within ½ hour, but heavily rusted areas may take longer. Do not leave Metal Ready in your tank for more than 24 hours. Pour out Metal Ready. Note: Metal Ready is reusable and even in a weakened state is an excellent pre-primer for all paints and sealers—filter out any large particles if you wish to reuse the Metal Ready. Rinse tank thoroughly with water and let dry. If your tank has pinholes on the outside of your tank, prep the outside of the tank the same way you treated the inside—use a brush or wire brush to clean the surface. Generally it is best of you do this before cleaning the inside, then apply some tape to the pinholes to stop them leaking. Your tank has now been completely cleaned and prepped ready for sealing. The tank must now be bone dry - DO NOT SKIP THIS, otherwise your sealer will not work properly e.g. Leaving tank in the sun for a few hours is not bone dry. Best method is to introduce moving air into the tank with a vacuum cleaner, fan, dryer etc and/or warm tank to evaporate moisture from inside. Sealing the Tank: Open sealer carefully and stir thoroughly. Pour contents into the tank, seal off hole and rotate tank slowly to make sure all surfaces are thoroughly covered. Drain sealer from the tank. Do not permit sealer to puddle in tank—leave to cure upside down, so if some sealer is tapped, it is on to top of the tank. For tanks with pin holes, you need to use repair cloth. Remove tape over pin holes and paint the general area with left over sealer. When it becomes tacky lay cloth on repaired area and paint another coat into the cloth and leave to cure. Tip out excess sealer. Remove any sealer from threads etc, as soon as possible—using a clean rag. Once sealer has been used it can not be reused or resealed. So if you have two or more tanks to seal they must be sealed at the same time e.g. they will both need to be cleaned and dry together because you will need to pour in from one tank to the next tank immediately. Any sealer which is left in the can that has not been inside a tank may be left for up to a year. Sealer will be fully cured in approximately 96 hours (4 days), but will be touch dry in 4-6 hours. |
